Welcome to MATEThe Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Center is national in scope, but works through regional partnerships. Partners help to create new curricula, collect information from employers, and share 'best practices' related to Marine Technology Education. One of the Center's main goals is to collect information from employers as to what skills, knowledge and abilities are needed for select marine related occupations. We have developed industry-driven skill and knowledge guidelines for several occupations including: ship-board (research) technician, remotely-operated vehicle technician, hydrographic survey technician, oil spill response technician, and aquaculture technician. We plan develop additional guidelines, and welcome suggestions. These guidelines form the basis for curriculum development. The MATE Center and its partners have developed several curriculum modules and programs including: An introduction to Aquaculture, career scenarios (problems) for the classroom, technology rich lab exercises, a new A.S. degree program, high school pathways, and a careers course. Some of these materials are available on-line. The MATE Center has also implemented a successful national and regional internship program that places students in technical positions. The MATE Center works with faculty, students, employers, administrators and others to accomplish its goals. We welcome participation from all who are interested! | ||||||||||||||||||||
