Overview of the Newport Sea Base The Newport Sea Base is a youth boating and marine education center located in Newport Beach, CA, and has been operating since 1937. The facility is owned and operated by the Orange County Boy Scouts of America but is open to all girls and boys in the community. Currently, the Newport Sea Base serves about 6,000 youth a year in a range of programs, from one day field trips to year-round activities and clubs. Classes range from sailing, rowing, paddling, fishing, marine science and other STEM subjects, to wood working and offshore sailing. The Sea Base has 27,000 sq.ft of inside space within three buildings and sits on 400' of waterfront property. There are three dock areas and over 140 water crafts. Overview of the Position The Education/Aquatics Coordinator oversees general education, marine sciences, and non-sailing, aquatics-based programs, while guiding the development and implementation of new programs and program enhancements in conjunction with the Program Director. Serves with a major responsibility for customer service, public relations, curriculum development, staff/instructor development, and class/activity scheduling. Oversees program equipment readiness. Ensures that Newport Sea Base programs meet the highest health and safety standards. Must be at least 21 years old, and have, or be willing to obtain, CPR and First Aid, and Red Cross Lifeguard certifications; upon being hired. Position entails a Tues-Sat work week. Needs to be enthusiastic, patient, creative, and have previous experience in youth development. Enforce National BSA aquatics policies, all state and local boating safety laws, and environmental regulations, as applicable. Reports directly to the Program Director.
