Title: Fisheries Technician 1 - Groundfish Catch Monitoring (19-1125) Location: Eagle, ID (83616) Anticipated Start Date: June 3, 2019 Position Type: Full Year (12 months or more), Hourly/Non-Exempt Benefits Eligible: Yes | www.psmfc.org/benefits Salary Target: $12.78-$20.87/hour, DOE Job Number: 19-1125 How to Apply: Online at www.psmfc.org/careers Closing Date: May 20, 2019 at midnight (PT) Position/Project Specifics: Applicant will assist Fisheries Research Geneticists with all aspects of RAD and GTseq library preparation for the Illumina NextSeq platform. The applicant will also receive instruction and assist with post-sequencing bioinformatics workflow, including genotyping and SNP calling. Additional duties will include organizing, and inventorying fish genetic samples and collections, conducting genetic laboratory analyses, including quantitative PCR and SNP genotyping. The position may assist with data management, analyses and technical report writing. The position may occasionally assist with genetic sampling at hatcheries. ***This position requires a valid driver's license and all offers of employment will be contingent upon passing a driving records check.***
Requirements:
Preference will be given to those applicants that have completed a B.S. degree from 4-year University by June 30th, 2019 and have: • Experience conducting genetic laboratory analyses DNA extraction, and microsatellite and SNP genotyping. This includes working experience with Fluidigm SNP genotyping, Restriction Site Associate DNA (RAD) sequencing, and/or GTseq genotyping • Experience with collecting, organizing, and inventorying fish genetic samples and collections. This includes direct working experience with Access and/or Progeny databases. A range of experience and education may be presented. At the lower end of the range, candidates must present six months of General Experience* OR one year of education above the high school level that included at least six semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses. An equivalent combination of experience and education is also qualifying. At the upper end of the range, candidates must present one year of Specialized Experience** OR a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with a major or at least 24 semester hours of coursework in any combination of scientific or technical courses. An equivalent combination of experience and education is also qualifying. *General Experience is (1) any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with biological sciences or the processes of the biological sciences. **Specialized Experience is experience that equips the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position being filled.
