Title: Fisheries Technician 1- Columbia River/Hanford Reach monitoring (19-1150) Location: Pasco, WA (99301) Anticipated Start Date: August 16, 2019 Position Type: Temporary (4 months or less), Hourly/Non-Exempt Benefits Eligible: No | www.psmfc.org/benefits Salary Target: $15.33-$17.18/hour, DOE Job Number: 19-1150 How to Apply: Online at www.psmfc.org/careers Closing Date: July 24, 2019 at Midnight PST Position/Project Specifics: Technicians are needed to conduct sport fishery and stream surveys of Up-River Bright fall Chinook salmon in the Hanford Reach area of the Columbia River. August 16 through October 31: Technician will monitor the Hanford Reach salmon sport fishery. Travel from WDFW Pasco office to the area boat launches. Technicians will interview anglers to determine catch and harvest, sample harvest for the recovery of coded wire tags, and collect biological data on the fish harvested including scale samples for aging, fin clips, length, and gender. Data will be used to estimate and manage harvest, determine origin of harvest, and estimate impacts to ESA Listed steelhead. November 1 through December 13: Technicians will conduct river surveys to sample post-spawn fall chinook in the Hanford Reach and lower Yakima River. Staff will meet at the WDFW Pasco office and travel to the designated sampling area. Four teams of 2-4 staff will conduct surveys by boat and/or foot. Technicians will record length, gender, fin clips, scan fish for coded wire tags, and remove otoliths to determine origin. Data from the river surveys will be used to determine origin and age composition of the return. ** This position requires a valid driver's license and all offers of employment will be contingent upon passing a driving record check. **
Requirements:
Minimum Qualification Requirements: A range of experience and education may be presented. At the lower end of the range, candidates must present six months of General Experience* OR one year of education above the high school level that included at least six semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses. An equivalent combination of experience and education is also qualifying. At the upper end of the range, candidates must present one year of Specialized Experience** OR a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with a major or at least 24 semester hours of coursework in any combination of scientific or technical courses. An equivalent combination of experience and education is also qualifying. *General Experience is (1) any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with biological sciences or the processes of the biological sciences. **Specialized Experience is experience that equips the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position being filled.
