Title: Fisheries Technician 1- Feather River Hatchery Sampling (19-1155) Location: Oroville, CA (95966) Anticipated Start Date: September 16, 2019 Position Type: Temporary (4 months or less), Hourly/Non-Exempt Benefits Eligible: No | www.psmfc.org/benefits Salary Target: $15.00-$17.00/hour, DOE Job Number: 19-1155 How to Apply: Online at www.psmfc.org/careers Closing Date: August 12, 2019 at Midnight PST Position/Project Specifics: The Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission is seeking 4 motivated individuals to assist the California Department of Water Resources Division of Environmental Services with the Feather River Hatchery sampling program. Fisheries Technicians will work under the direction of the project lead(s) to follow standardized sampling protocols and will be responsible for collecting biotic data associated with lower Feather River Spring and Fall Chinook. Specific duties include but are not limited to: working in a loud hatchery environment, handling adult Chinook salmon, processing and organizing fish samples, and recording biological data. Experience with salmonids and hatchery sampling is desirable, but not necessary. Other skills that are necessary include: ability to lift 40-50 lbs, ability to reach, lift, bend, twist, handle and carry equipment, clear written and oral communication, safety consciousness, ability to work closely with other agencies and personnel in a team environment, and a positive attitude. Flexibility to help on other Feather River fisheries projects including redd surveys or escapement surveys is strongly desired. ** This position requires a valid driver's license and all offers of employment will be contingent upon passing a driving record check. **

At the lower end of the range, candidates must present six months of General Experience* OR one year of education above the high school level that included at least six semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses. An equivalent combination of experience and education is also qualifying. At the upper end of the range, candidates must present one year of Specialized Experience** OR a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with a major or at least 24 semester hours of coursework in any combination of scientific or technical courses. An equivalent combination of experience and education is also qualifying. *General Experience is (1) any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with biological sciences or the processes of the biological sciences. **Specialized Experience is experience that equips the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position being filled.
