Title: Fishery Biologist 1- Rotary Screw Trap Crew Leader (19-1174) Location: Sacramento, California (95814) Anticipated Start Date: October 1, 2019 Position Type: Full Year, Full Time, Hourly/Non-Exempt Benefits Eligible: Yes | www.psmfc.org/benefits Salary Target: $17.50-$22.00/hour, DOE Job Number: 19-1174 How to Apply: Online at www.psmfc.org/careers Closing Date: September 4, 2019 at midnight Position/Project Specifics: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail oriented individual to fill the Fishery Biologist position to lead a field survey crew operating rotary screw traps on both the lower American and Stanislaus Rivers. The survey season extends from January through June and the position will be full-time year-round and based in Sacramento, CA. In collaboration with the Data Management Specialist the biologist will supervise crew members while conducting daily field activities and data collection using rotary screw traps to monitor the emigration of juvenile Chinook salmon. This will include but is not limited to identifying various fish species, assessing life stage and run, collecting environmental data and maintaining field equipment. The candidate will demonstrate safety consciousness and train crew members on all safety and data collection protocols. The candidate must be able to conduct physically challenging field work, in potentially stressful situations, all while maintaining a positive attitude and encouraging crew members to do the same. The candidate must be willing to work in inclement weather and be willing to work weekends, nights and overtime. This position will require working with multiple agencies, technicians, and biologists, so having good interpersonal skills are required. Together with the Data Management Specialist the biologist will help compile and analyze data, develop annual reports, and maintain proper scientific collecting permits. Preference will be giving to those candidates with previous lead-person or supervisory experience and previous experience trapping and handling juvenile fish. Duties and responsibilities include: o Lead and manage a 6-7 person crew in daily field operations at two survey sites o Operate and maintain 14 foot motorized water craft and 4WD trucks o Install, operate and maintain 8 and 5 foot rotary screw traps o Identify, handle, anesthetize, and collect biological data from juvenile fish species o Handle endangered or threatened fish species according to permits and protocols o Assist with daily QA/QC of datasheets and entered data o Maintain proper scientific collecting permits o Develop monthly and annual reports ** This position requires a valid driver's license and all offers of employment will be contingent upon passing a driving record check. **

Requirements:

A range of education and experience may be presented. Candidates must present successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major in biological science with at least 6 semester hours in aquatic subjects and at least 12 semester hours in the animal sciences. An equivalent combination of experience and education is also qualifying.
