Ocean Associates, Inc. (OAI) is seeking a Scientist to provide support to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Northwest Fisheries Science Center, Manchester Research Station, for the Marine Fish and Shellfish Biology Program. OAI supplies personnel support services on contract to government and industry clients for marine fisheries and protected species. The Marine Fish and Shellfish Biology Program studies biological questions pivotal to the sustainability of natural marine fish populations and their artificial propagation for aquaculture. The goal is to utilize information gained from studying wild populations to enhance aquaculture. In reverse, information gained from experiments on artificial propagation can be used to understand the dynamics of wild marine fish populations and to aid in their management. Our science is used by commercial partners to enable and optimize their aquaculture operations. Start date: ASAP Location: 7305 E. Beach Drive, Port Orchard, WA 98366 Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time position with excellent employee benefits. Salary commensurate with experience. Duties • Assist in building, plumbing, maintaining and repairing marine egg, larval and fish holding and culture systems including recirculation aquaculture systems (RAS), flow- through tank systems, and netpen systems. • Assist in the production and feeding of live feeds (e.g., rotifers and artemia) for fish larvae and in the production and feeding of diets to adult fish. • Assist in collecting data during the spawning and rearing of fish including PIT tagging fish, assessing growth, and any other variables measured during experiments conducted by NOAA scientists on marine fish, larvae and eggs. Will also collect daily, weekly or monthly data on the physical and chemical parameters of the life support systems. Other Duties • Life support systems capable of maintaining marine fish, eggs, and larvae in healthy conditions. • Clean and functional life support systems for rearing marine fish adult, juvenile, larvae and eggs. • Production of adequate quantities of live foods to feed marine fish larvae and well-fed adult and juvenile marine fish. • Data on physical/chemical parameters of life support and live feed production systems and on the growth and other experimental characteristics of cultured marine fish, larvae and eggs. • Assist in collecting records of marine fish held in netpens.

Requirements:

Qualifications Selected individual(s) must have the following minimum qualifications: • Bachelor's degree, or higher, from an accredited college or university with a major directly related in a field of study as related to the requirements of specific task order with emphasis in fisheries, oceanography, social science, natural science, mathematics, or hydrology, plus two (2) years of experience in related field or combination of such totaling six (6) years combined education and experience. Additional required qualifications include: • Knowledge and/or experience in rearing and maintaining fish in tanks and/or recirculation systems • Knowledge and/or experience in assessing water chemistry parameters Additional preferred qualifications include: • Knowledge and/or experience in rearing live foods for marine fish including rotifers and artemia • Knowledge and/or experience in spawning fish • Knowledge and/or experience in incubation of fish eggs and/or larvae • Knowledge and/or experience in plumbing particularly related to fish holding systems If you are interested in being considered for this position, you MUST APPLY THROUGH OAI's WEBSITE ONLY.
