SUNY Maritime College Location: Bronx, NY Category: Faculty Positions Posted On: Wed May 5 2021 Job Description: The Marine Transportation Department at Maritime College, State University of New York, is seeking to fill multiple, non-tenure track faculty positions of Lecturer-10 Month. Incumbents will be assigned various Marine Transportation courses as the needs of the Department, Department Chair, and their background allows. Participation in two out of three summer sea terms is expected and will be paid in addition to the annual salary. * The incumbent reports to the Chair, Department of Marine Transportation and be assigned courses in Vessel Operations, Seamanship, Rescue Craft, Management and Maritime Regulation, Basic and Advanced Navigation, Ship Handling, Rules of the Road, Stability, Ships Construction, License Preparation, and Simulator Operations. Other courses may be assigned as well, as needs of the Department dictate, and background allows. * Some ship and license-related classes contain experiential education components involving teaching outdoors on the pier, operating and commanding small vessels, evolutions onboard the Training Ship, and the Firefighting field. Candidates should be comfortable teaching in these environments. * The selected individual participates in campus and departmental committee assignments and be active and involved in the Maritime Industry through publication, participation in regulatory events or industry conferences. Job Requirements: Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Marine Transportation or related field * STCW OPERATIONAL Level License, Unlimited/Oceans with experience as either a Third or Second Mate on US-Flag merchant vessels of unlimited tonnage vessels. * Experience on commercial vessels of any type, commensurate with experience, including military, dry cargo and liquid cargo, bulk, container, passenger, offshore, etc. * Current familiarity and experience in the international regulatory environment and SMS Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in Maritime education and /or training or familiarization responsibilities, ashore or afloat. * License may be in continuity, but preference is given to active licenses, including Medical Certificate. * Endorsements such as Tankerman PIC DL, LG, Barge * Graduate of a Maritime Academy

Additional Information: Classification/Salary Range: The Lecturer-10 Month position is a non-tenure track, academic year appointment, United University Professions (UUP) positions. Appointments will be for 10 months, for a a fixed term of one or two years, with one to three-year extensions possible by mutual consent. Willingness to serve as instructional staff on the training ship during the summer is expected. Such extra service receives compensation in addition to the base salary. The anticipated salary range is $57,000 - $60,000 annually, and includes an outstanding benefits package.
