We have multiple seasonal paid crew positions available. All applicants must be 18 or older. Fully vaccinated for Covid-19 (including booster). Be able to obtain CPR & First Aid Certification and WA Food handler card by start of season. Additional qualifications for each job. Two sailing seasons available. Season 1: March- July 3. Season 2: July 4- Oct. 31. BIPOC & LGBTQ+ encouraged to apply! Compensation includes lodging and meals on the ship, on the job training and sea-time. Licensed positions (requires 100-ton captains license) -Chief Mate: $2,000 a month -Second Mate: $1,800 a month Unlicensed positions with past tall ship experience -Program Coordinator: $2,000 a month -Engineer: $2,000 a month -Galley Coordinator: $2,000 a month -Educator/Deckhand: $1600 a month Unlicensed Entry Level- great option for folks new to tall ships! -Entry-Level Educator/Deckhand: $1300 a month Sound Experience is a non-profit Puget Sound/Salish Sea-based environmental and youth leadership organization that uniquely delivers its programs on the 133' historic wooden schooner Adventuress. On day and overnight programs, Sound Experience serves over 3,000 people each year, inspiring in them a greater understanding of the complexity of our marine ecological systems and a stronger commitment to stewardship of a healthy Sound. Our mission: Sound Experience sails the historic schooner Adventuress to educate, inspire, and empower an inclusive community that works to improve our marine environment and celebrates our maritime heritage. Each position has a list of responsibilities. Please see the specific job descriptions on our website. General responsibilities for each crew are as follows: As a crew member, you are living and working aboard the historic schooner Adventuress with up to 15 other crew and up to 24 other participants during an overnight program. Crew members have various roles and responsibilities, but all actively participate in delivering the Sound Experience education curriculum, daily aspects of shipboard life and assist in safe and proper vessel operation. Programs aboard Adventuress range from 3 to 6-day overnight voyages, as well as 3 to 5-hour educational day sails, dockside tours, 3-hour sails for the public, festivals, transits, fundraising events, other day sails and virtual programs.
