MarineLab in Key Largo is looking for a Lead Captain to join our team of dedicated marine science educators. MarineLab uses discovery and adventure in the Florida Keys to teach students and teachers about the ecology and stewardship of the marine environment. We need an experienced, outgoing, self-directed Captain to keep our fleet of boats safe and reliable, coordinate a team of part time captains to drive our students and instructors out to snorkel in the seagrass, mangroves, and coral reef communities, and to demonstrate the highest skill in boat operations through example and training. The MarineLab Lead Captain will be responsible for ensuring that our fleet is ready at all times to support the MarineLab mission. The fleet consists of four 26' Twin Vees and one 29' Twin Vee. A new 30' Alpha Cat has been ordered.
Requirements:
USCG Master's License, near coastal in our area minimum Mercury Marine certification, or willingness to get certified Boat mechanical experience, including electrical & fiberglass Excellent written & verbal communication skills Record-keeping experience Familiar with and comfortable with using email & computer applications Supervisory experience Team Oriented Detail-oriented & self-motivated Must pass Level II background check Must pass pre-employment drug test Student-friendly demeanor, flexibility in responding to work requirements Valid drivers' license and comfortable backing up and driving boat trailers
