Description:
The Assistant Quota Monitoring Biologist is a member of the License and Statistics section of the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries (NCDMF) and will work within the North Carolina Trip Ticket Program (NCTTP). This position will assist the Quota Monitoring Biologist in tracking commercial fishery quotas for some of NC's commercial fisheries. Commercial fishery quota monitoring will be accomplished through monitoring daily reports submitted by fish dealers, coordinating data entry, developing, and implementing quality control procedures, and producing scientific reports. This position will be responsible for assisting with data entry, data analysis, compliance tracking, and data validation. This position will communicate with seafood dealers to help resolve any discrepancies found between the NCTTP and the Quota Monitoring Program databases. This position will also assist the Quota Monitoring Biologist in updating the current quota totals each week and forwarding that information to other fisheries managers to inform fisheries management decisions. This position will also help track fishery quotas for other species that are not under the Quota Monitoring Program but are tracked through ad-hoc analyses of NCTTP data. This position will assist with completing data requests and analyses of trip ticket, quota monitoring, and license data as needed to meet program needs and objectives and will also assist with providing technical support to dealers using the electronic trip ticket reporting software. This position will also assist with the administration of special economic assistance programs. Requirements:
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree in wildlife or fisheries management, marine biology, zoology or biology from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in wildlife or fisheries management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL the following: - Demonstrated knowledge of fisheries and/or fisheries management - Experience collecting, recording, entering and/or compiling data - Experience using word processing and spreadsheet software Management Preferences: - Experience analyzing fisheries data - Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
