Job Summary: Are you a mechanical engineer with experience in an R&D environment? Do you want your work to make a difference and help preserve the environment? We want to hear from you! The work of this senior-level engineer serves the overall goals of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL). The ideal candidate will possess thorough knowledge of traditional engineering and machine shop practices and capabilities, as well as emerging additive manufacturing techniques. Responsibilities Include: Managing multiple projects and making decisions independently on technical problems Working closely with the PMEL machine shop to ensure timely delivery of components of the highest quality Assembling and testing prototypes with the assistance of technicians Generating complete assembly documents Practicing accurate documentation to ensure the future support of technology Programming and operating numerically controlled machine tools, (Hass VF2 and TM1 vertical milling machines and a Haas TL2 lathe) Determining material requirements for projects Must possess broad experience in the mechanical engineering field and Work Setting and Environment: Monday - Friday, normal business hours Work is to be performed at NOAA's facilities in Seattle, WA On-site federal contractors, in federal buildings or on federal lands must comply with CDC guidelines with respect to wearing masks, maintaining physical distance, and other public health measures.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications and Skills: At least 3 years of experience in an R&D environment A two-year degree in engineering and machine technology with emphasis on Computer Numerical Control (CNC) tool operation The ability to inspect parts using CMM Broad experience in the mechanical engineering field The ability to use manually operated machine tools, (especially lathes) Familiarity with MasterCam The ability to read blueprints to produce quality parts with minimal supervision Desired: Solidworks CAD and MasterCAM experience Welding skills
