Job Summary: Are you a software engineer with a background in embedded hardware? Are you looking for a remote position where your work will make a difference? We want to speak to you! NOAA's Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) is a federal laboratory that makes critical observations and conducts groundbreaking research to advance our knowledge of the global ocean and its interactions with the earth, atmosphere, ecosystems, and climate. The purpose of this position is to provide technical engineering services support to the Engineering Development Division, and more specifically as an embedded firmware development engineer for developing ocean research systems. The embedded firmware development engineer will be responsible for carrying out complete design, functionality tests, and software code under supervision of the PMEL Engineering Lead. Responsibilities Include: Developing, testing, documenting, and releasing firmware for controlling embedded ocean sensor systems Moving from a design concept (TRL 2-3) to a fully functional system in 1 year (TRL 6-7) The fully functional system will have been extensively bench tested, and then successfully deployed in the ocean environment, in quantities of 5+ Work Setting and Environment: Work is to be performed remotely Monday - Friday, normal business hours On-site federal contractors, in federal buildings or on federal lands must comply with CDC guidelines with respect to wearing masks, maintaining physical distance, and other public health measures
Requirements:
Required Qualifications and Skills: BS in electrical engineering or similar degree The ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance At least 5 years of experience in embedded system development and testing Familiarity with the class of microprocessor MSP430, ARM M0-M4, or similar At least 5 years of experience in firmware development, programming in C or C++ language and with associated compilers, firmware debuggers, GitHub repository, etc. Demonstrated experience using various electronic PCB test equipment, their GUIs, for system-level testing Excellent time-management skills and commitment to meet deadlines in a remote work environment Desired: MS in electrical engineering or a similar degree
