Description:
MARE seeks a Part-time Marine Educator to support our Deep Sea Education Program. The Marine Educator will assist with program scheduling, lead classroom programs, and aid in program evaluations. The Marine Educator will work directly with the Director of Education. Estimated 20 hours per week. Days and hours of work vary, based on school schedules. Some local travel is expected for this position. Anticipated start date for this position is February 1, 2023. Roles and Responsibilities: *Work closely with the Director of Education to develop and deliver education programs both in-person and online at San Francisco Bay Area middle and high schools (San Francisco, Alameda, and Contra Costa counties). *Assist in outreach for the education program (emailing with schools, teachers, school districts). *Assist with social media for the Education program and organization as a whole. *Track and document program metrics and lessons learned. *Work on special projects as assigned.
Requirements:
A successful candidate will have the following characteristics and skills: *Provide engaging conservation and science education programming. *Knowledge of marine biology topics and ocean conservation issues. *Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written skills. *Detail-oriented and strong multi-tasking ability. *Ability to translate scientific/technical information to non-technical audiences. *Ability to work independently and in teams; and Ability to take initiative and see projects through to completion with minimal supervision. Education and Experience: *Bachelor's degree in environmental science, life science, education or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. *Demonstrated excellent public speaking and presentation skills. *Demonstrated ability to work with a large diversity of audiences. *Valid driver's license required. *Fluency in Microsoft Office products, Google Suite, and social media channels. *Minimum of one year of experience facilitating programming at an informal science/environmental education organization is a plus. *Demonstrated understanding and use of best practices related to Next Generation Science Standards, supporting diverse student audiences is a plus. *Fluency in at least one other language in addition to English is a plus.
