Description:
The Port Townsend Marine Science Center is pleased to offer two unpaid internships for the 2015 season. Marine Education Interns will learn by
actively assisting our program staff in a wide variety of programs and tasks including exhibit maintenance and interpretation, volunteer
management, summer camp education, and citizen science. Other aspects of life in a busy non-profit educational organization will be explored
as opportunities arise. Interns are responsible for completing paperwork to receive university credit.
Tasks:
? Assist in all aspects of running and maintaining Marine and
Natural History Exhibits including maintaining tanks, caring for
animals, and general upkeep of exhibits
? Assist the volunteer docent team in interpreting exhibits for the
public including hands-on education programs
? Assist educational staff in Marine Science Summer Camps
? Support volunteers in our citizen science lab and marine mammal
stranding network
? Support volunteers in our gift shop
? Receive on-site training in natural history, marine biology,
shoreline ecology, interpretation techniques, and care of cold
water marine invertebrates and fish
Requirements:
Qualifications:
? Ability or willingness to work with people of all ages
and diverse backgrounds
? Marine science and natural history background
? Energetic, self-motivated, and willing to learn
? Independent, well organized, and a team worker
? Excellent verbal communication skills
? CPR and First Aid certification completed before arrival
