Basic ROV Design and Build for Great Lakes Regional MATE ROV Competition Date: February 18, 2017 Time: 9:00 am - 6:00 pm* Location: Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary's Visitor Center, located at: 500 W. Fletcher St., Alpena, MI 49707. (989) 356-8805. *6:30 pm - optional tour of Alpena Community College's Marine Technology program lab available Workshop Overview: The workshop will provide a forum for teachers to: 1. Acquire knowledge and skills needed to implement basic ROV design and build STEM curriculum into the classroom or as an after school activity. 2. Develop an understanding of what ROV technicians do and the technologies they use for career pathways. 3. Learn about the MATE ROV Competition for students. Best for teachers working with students: grades 5th - 12th Cost $20 fee to attend. Attendees commit to supporting a student team to enter the 2017 or 2018 Great Lakes Regional MATE ROV Competition in Alpena, MI. Teachers will leave with a robot to use with student teams. Spaces not filled by teachers are available to informal educators that would like to start an after school team club. Cost to take home completed ROV for an informal educator is $100. Payment may be made at the workshop via check or credit card, invoices or purchase orders are available upon request. Schools are encouraged to send teacher teams of two to work on a build together.
